Incentives For Solar panelsHow Solar Energy Works
Solar energy systems are tied to the electric grid and do not require batteries to store power.
When you install a solar energy system on your property, you remain connected to the electricity grid. At times when your system produces more electricity than you use, you receive credit for the electricity you send to the grid; if you need more electricity than your solar energy system is producing, you can draw it from the grid.
You’re Still Using Energy—Even When Devices Are Turned OffGlobal warming, air pollution, depletion of fossil fuels - these are all serious topics that humankind must address if we are to survive. Fortunately, solar energy is a clean, renewable resource that will last for thousands of years.Fun Fact #1 About Solar EnergyWhen sunlight travels through the atmosphere, its solar radiation is reduced by 23% due to reflection and absorption that occurs as the sunlight passes through layers of the atmosphere. Dust, clouds, and air pollutants all inhibit the ability of sunlight to provide solar energy power.Fun Fact #2 About Solar EnergyAs the sun reaches the surface of the earth, it is absorbed by the earth's oceans, plants, and lands. The heat of the sun that the oceans absorb is responsible for the for ocean currents. Fun Fact #3 About Solar EnergyPlants convert solar energy to create fuel through a process known as photosynthesis. Fossil fuels, trees, and plants are all fueled by photosynthesis.Fun Fact #4 About Solar EnergySolar panels that convert sunlight to electricity usually convert 15% of sunlight into electricity on average.Fun Fact #5 About Solar EnergySolar thermal energy does not involve electricity. With solar thermal energy, the sun's radiant heat raises the temperature of water traveling inside tubes. The hot water inside the tubes is used to heat water in water heaters and to heat the air through radiant heat systems.Fun Fact #6 About Solar EnergyEuropean farmers during the middle ages knew all about the importance of harnessing the power of the sun. They oriented their fields and used innovative thermal mass practices to increase the amount of solar power in their fields.Fun Fact #7 About Solar EnergyArchitects can plan the way a building is sited, its windows, and its materials so that the sun provides most of the building's light and heat.Fun Fact #8 About Solar EnergyHollywood celebrities love solar energy. Among the stars who use solar energy in their homes are Ed Begley, Jr.; Cheryl Tiegs; Jackson Browne; Bill Nye (the "science guy"), Larry Hagman, Don Cheadle, Danny DeVito, Rhea Perlman, Daryl Hannah, Carlos Santana, Alicia Silverstone, Robin Williams, and Edward Norton. Fun Fact #9 About Solar EnergyThere is enough sunlight on the surface of the earth every hour to meet all the energy demands of the entire world for one full year.Fun Fact #10 About Solar EnergyAlbert Einstein won a Nobel prize in 1921 for his work with photovoltaic solar cells and solar energy. So, you see, solar energy isn't all work and no play. I hope you have enjoyed reading these fun facts about solar energy.

What Solar Can Do For You?The panels are up. The sun is out. No electricity is being produced. Arrrg! Let's talk about some of nominal problems you might run across with your solar panels.Solar panels are so reliable that we are surprised when something actually goes wrong. Temperature fluctuations, severe weather, lightning and static electricity are all examples of things that affect them. Here are some things you might need to know in order to fix your solar panel. If your panels are wired in series-parallel or parallel, then you can test individual panels by covering at least four of the cells in the panel. The output should drop by half or more. If it does not, then that panel is not working. Look for the problem in that panel, or other panels that are wired in series with it. Sometimes, the voltage coming out of the system drops during the hottest part of the day. This is called "Fading in the Heat". A 12-volt photovoltaic module is nominally designed to work well all the way to about 17 or 18 volts at 25 Celsius, so that the 12-volt current will be maintained when the voltage drops at higher temperatures. If the heat fade is more severe than this, it might be caused by weak links in the system, such as poor connections, bad wiring, controller losses or a weak photovoltaic module. You can troubleshoot this by monitoring the current while cooling the array by pouring water over it. If the voltage returns to normal, disconnect the panel from the system and check the open voltage. If it is below 18 volts, then use the shading technique above to test individual modules.Temperature cycling, oxidation and corrosion can affect metal connections. Screws can loosen, metal can warp, and electrical resistance can occur. This all adds up to overheated connections. It is even possible that an electric arc can melt metal and burn insulation. Repair this by replacing all corroded or oxidized metal parts, possibly even bypassing burnt terminals by wiring directly to the metal strip which is connected to the PV cells. Usually, PV modules have a bypass diode in the junction box. This keeps the cells from overheating if they become partially shaded for an extended period of time. Occasionally, lightening can cause a diode to short out and the module's voltage will drop. If the array is 24volt and is unlikely to get sustained partial shading, you can remove the diode. In a 12 volt array, you can remove the diode without bypassing it. In any other situation, replace the diode with a silicon diode. Be certain that the voltage rating is 400 volts or more, and that it has an amp rating at or above the modules maximum current.
Use Electricity Not Solar? The Sooner You Know The BetterHomeowners in the U.S. have achieved breakeven point with solar in as short as 3 years.
The cost of solar has plummeted while the cost of grid electricity has continued to gradually rise, and the concept of the solar “break-even point” with solar has become more and more attractive. In 2018, most homeowners are seeing payback periods between five and eight years and 20-year savings estimates upwards of $20,000. Some homeowners are seeing break-even points as low as three to four years in states where utility prices are high like Massachusetts and New York.

Take The Stress Out Of Home Solar SystemThe solar industry is growing so rapidly that it’s eclipsing growth in more traditional industries
Before solar technology went mainstream (that’s right, we were into solar before it was cool), there was a period of time where the notion of powering your house by sunlight was looked upon as black magic wizardry.
However, thanks to the recent growth of the solar industry and resulting drop in prices, panels are fastly becoming the norm and not the exception. And while we’re certainly not complaining, this familiarity does mean solar has lost a little bit of its mystique.
But for anyone thinking they’ve heard all there is to hear about solar, we’re here to say, “nuh uh.” So strap in and buckle up because these four solar panel facts might just blow your mind
Best Renewable Energy And Solar InformationSolar energy can provide power 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
One of the common concerns voiced by homeowners when considering going solar is, “What would I do at night?” This is the resource’s most evident barrier towards reaching mainstream status, and solar energy storage providers are answering the call. A number of well-regarded brands have entered the solar storage space (including Tesla, LG, and Mercedes) and new competition and innovation is causing the cost of solar storage to plummet. In 2018, homeowners can purchase solar-plus-storage systems and be completely energy independent. To learn more about storage, check out the best solar batteries available in 2017.

Top Rated Solution For Solar Energy For Your HomeHow Much Does Solar Increase Your Property’s Value?
The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (https://www.nrel.gov/learning/pdfs/43844.pdf) offers a useful guide when determining how much your property’s value will go up. According to its research, each additional $1 in energy bill savings (from your solar installation) adds $20 to your home’s total value.
This rule of thumb varies depending on a number of factors, including:
The location of your home. Installations in active solar markets like New Jersey typically yield higher returns than comparable installations in less developed markets.
The size of your installation. Property value increases are directly proportional to the number (and quality) of solar PV panels installed.
The value of your home. Larger houses usually receive higher nominal boosts in property value. However, this increase often represents a smaller percentage of the total home value.
